The only reasonable thing to do is make another turbo system. (Lexus ramblings)

Having bought 6 of these turbos total over time I’ve just reached the cost of 1 Garrett equivalent.

5 alternators, 3 from a previous project with worn shafts, 1 of which is mostly disassembled(hiding in the back), 2 brand new ones that are getting upgraded shaft seals along with 360° thrust bearings.

Current sc motor has too much blowby from overheating in the past(& 200k miles) so I’ve ordered another motor that I can rebuild if i need to. Th e motor in the car still runs but the crankcase pressure is great enough to keep oil from draining out of the turbos. I’d like to make it work without rebuilding it if possible though.

The 2 1/2" pcv hoses are not enough let the crank breath all of its pressure so I’m going to repurpose the oil level sensor location on the sump to act as a pcv port.(Hack up the oil level sensor, use the flange to attach a barb and route the pcv to one of the intakes)

This leaves me with a second motor just sitting around, already got 2 extra turbos, All the necessary V-bands, and about half of the necessary exhaust material. Why not build another set?

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

This is the original turbo exhaust system that I will mimick, but I have not started yet.

There are essentially no company selling turbo systems for the ls , sc, gs , or 1uz-fe in general so I should be able to sell the second exhaust system I make and use that money for activities.

I think it will work or at least help greatly.

Interestingly enough,  some blowby is almost a more preferential option compared to the rings being tight and the gap closing from the heat and causing the pistons to disintegrate. If you are rebuilding the other block make sure to gap for a turbo or forced induction spec if they have one for the 1uz.

Never done any internal work to an engine but when I go through the process  but this sounds like one of those things about building a,” loose” motor for forced induction.

Rebuilding the engine will snowball into MLS headgastets, arp headstuds, stronger rods, $$$$$$, not to mention buying rings, bearings, and new tools. Lets hope the compression/leakdown checks out on the next motor.(its 180k miles of course)

SEXtuple turbo setup would be too tempting for the pictures alone

(Yes that’s what it’s called, I looked it up.)

Is it p ossible to run the turbo s on their own dedicated oiling system ? That is how I had to do it in my old turbo’d Northstar Fiero.

Thats was what I did with the old rearmount setup, could never get the oil pressure and drain properly dialed. That’s why I have 3 extra turbos with damaged shafts, the system ran without oil pressure on a few occations.

My primary hope for moving to front mounts would be an oil system that didnt leak past the shaft seals, how nieve I was.

An y photos of the fiero?

I am surprised the remote oil system didn’t work. I ran mine at 8-30 psi depending on boost pressure. Stand alone o il tank had a warmer to keep the oil hot . Did take a bit of tweeking but it was one of the things that actually worked on the car. Turbos were mounted high and had massive gravity return lines, and an ingenious pressure bleed off system my dad came up.

No pictures anymore. It was a 19 85 SE with a later GT fastback swapped on and painted a nice blue . A large apartment fire about a decade ago cleansed me of most of my older possessions. Most pictures of the car were on old 35mm film or video tape as digital media was still an expensive novelty for a college bound kid at the time, late 90's . There used to be some pictures and a video of it doing some 0-100 pulls on one of the Fiero forums , but with photobucket doing its thing, those were lost to time as well. It is now a glossy eyed memory of being better than it was. The engine management was an absolute bitch. My brother’s Rx7 was more reliable.

That sounds fantastic! Those rose colored memories.

I was running 1 shurflo pump to pressurize pulling from a reservoir, it ran at low 8-30 psi depending on oil temps. Problem was it didnt gravity drain and used a second shurflo to pull oil out of the turbos.
